In addition to marking the coming together of two creeks, our Confluence Vineyard embodies two distinct terroirs: rich-soiled benchlands and a steep hillside. This diversity has inspired two limited-production Pinot Noirs – Confluence Lower Bench and Confluence Hillside. The Lower Bench vines are grown in Confluence’s fertile benchland soils, and ripen weeks later than our hillside grapes producing generous dark fruit flavors and earthy tannins.

  • Grown in the deep, fertile soils of Confluence Vineyard’s lower bench, this Pinot Noir offers lifted aromas of fresh rosemary, pink peppercorn, suede, and a subtle earthy note of geosmin. On the palate, a full mouthfeel and refined tannins support flavors of juicy raspberry, breakfast tea, and a hint of cinnamon graham cracker. The wine finishes with structure, length, and a clear sense of place.

BACKSTORY

Goldeneye Winery was founded in 1996, years before the Pinot Noir boom that has reshaped the landscape of California winemaking. But the genesis for Goldeneye goes back even further. In 1990, after fifteen years of making world-class Bordeaux-varietal wines, Dan and Margaret Duckhorn embraced their growing love of Pinot Noir. Their vision for Goldeneye was simple, though not easy. They wanted to found a winery that could make a terroir-inspired expression of California Pinot Noir of equal stature to the acclaimed Merlots they had pioneered at Duckhorn Vineyards in Napa Valley.
